Stephen and Holly chose to stay at Darla Anderson’s Foothill House B&B in Calistoga, CA, because it is just minutes away from the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in St. Helena, where they attended the Worlds of Flavor conference. Foothill House was the perfect haven after long days of culinary classes and lectures. Darla, a true Californian, traces her genealogy to the Native American Chumash tribe of Santa Barbara and to the original Spanish soldiers who entered California with the De Anza Trek in 1775. She purchased Foothill House two years ago and thoroughly enjoys her role as innkeeper. “I don't get away often because owning an inn is a full-time commitment,” said Darla. “But it doesn’t bother me because I love it. When asked by guests where I go on vacation, I say ‘look around. You pay to come and enjoy what I have all the time. Who needs to go somewhere else?’ I really enjoy spoiling my guests, especially during our wine and appetizer hour (5-6 pm each evening) when I sit and chat with everyone and pass on information about my favorite local destinations and restaurants. I welcome all to come and enjoy a few days of pleasurable surroundings and have the same experience I do every day.”
