Jo Ann Hattner is a nutrition consultant with Stanford University Medical School and a partner in Hattner/Coulston Nutrition LLC in San Francisco California.  At Stanford University School of Medicine she is an instructor, program developer, and content writer for the medical school nutrition course, a NIH Nutrition Academic Award Program.

In her private practice she specializes in motivational counseling of women, adolescents, and children. Hattner is co-author of the book Help! My Underwear is shrinking! [see below] The book published by the American Diabetes Association offers a unique treatment plan for overweight women. She often consults with professional organizations; health professionals, government agencies and community based programs that serve mothers and children. She has presented at numerous national conferences on the subject of women’s health, childhood obesity and the maternal connection. 

Hattner served as a National Spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association for over ten years. She has extensive media training and experience in radio and television. She is a nationally recognized nutritionist who is often cited in the national press. Presently she serves on the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation’s MD-RD Nutrition Spokesperson Team. As a consultant she advises industry and trade associations within the food/agricultural sector on public policy, food safety, new product development, advertisement, and e-commerce.

Hattner earned her master’s degree in public health from the University of California, Berkeley and her bachelor’s degree in science from the University of Idaho, Moscow. She completed her dietetic internship at the University of California Medical Center, San Francisco. She is the recipient Of the 2003 Distinguished Alumna Award from the University of Idaho.
