Matt Savage
Matt Savage was born in 1992. He taught himself how to read piano music and began studying classical piano in 1998. He discovered jazz in 1999 and began studies at The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA. Three months later, he recorded his first audio CD in collaboration with his instructor, Eyran Katsenelenbogen, to raise money for autism research.
In 2001, he started his own band, The Matt Savage Trio, in which his world-class sidemen are adults. Matt has met and played offstage with Dave Brubeck, Chick Corea, Avishai Cohen , Jeff Ballard, McCoy Tyner, Avery Sharpe and Al Foster. He has double-billed onstage with artists such as Danilo Perez, The Bad Plus, Arturo O’Farrill and John Payne. He has performed in concert with legends such as Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath, Jon Faddis, Marcus McLaurine, Kenny Washington, Bobby Watson, Chaka Khan, and Shawn Colvin. He has appeared on The Today Show, “20/20”, Montel, and multiple other television shows. He was featured on NPR’s “All Things Considered” and performed at their “Jazz Piano Christmas” at the Kennedy Center.
Matt’s music is played on the radio worldwide and Matt has been featured in international magazines, including PEOPLE Magazine, Time, JAZZIZ, Wired, and Der Spiegel. He appeared on the cover of Time for Kids Magazine. He is the youngest person to have played at the New Orleans Jazz Festival and at New York’s famed Blue Note and Birdland jazz clubs. He has even performed for the Premier and Governor of Curacao, as well as for the President and First Lady of Singapore. In 2003, Matt was signed by Bösendorfer pianos. He is the only child to have become a Bösendorfer piano artist in their 177-year history! He has won International awards for his original jazz compositions, including the Young Jazz Composers Award from ASCAP.
