Stephen Valentino is the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of SYR, Inc., and the on-air Host of “Serves You Right ®” on CRN Radio Networks, nationwide. Mr. Valentino is largely responsible for the creative content of the show as well as a major participant in the selection of future development projects for the Company.
In addition, since 2000, Mr. Valentino has served as CEO of his family’s Company, The Valentino Group, Inc. This is a pension and benefit consulting firm, and has placed billions in pension assets from a client base that includes the State of California, the Construction Trades Council, and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters
Additionally, Stephen remains active in all levels of his performance training. He has appeared in leading roles in operas, plays and musicals in California, Oregon, New York, Canada, Europe and Africa. He has been seen in films, television commercials, Public Service Announcements, and voice-over work for both television and radio. Since 1999 he has hosted “San Francisco In Flight” for a major international airline, covering restaurants, clubs, cultural events and locations, historical landmarks and tourist spots.
Mr. Valentino has produced many events for charity, and as the CEO of Valentino Productions, mobilized Hollywood stars to benefit such organizations as Easter Seals, the Special Olympics, Toys For Tots, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and the Make A Wish Foundation. He is currently seated on the Advisory Board of the Richmond/Ermet Aids Foundation and United Nations Secretary General U Thant has honored him for his efforts on behalf of UNICEF. Mr. Valentino served for four years as a California State Senatorial Commissioner on the Business Insurance Advisory Commission.
Since 1996, Mr. Valentino has been the Entertainment Editor of QSF Magazine. His duties and pleasures include the review of entertainment venues, restaurants, travel locations, and cars. His regular column, “Serves You Right”, was created as a vehicle to interview the world’s most prominent Chefs and review cookbooks and cooking paraphernalia; this, in conjunction with his other experiences as Entertainment Editor and global Epicure, has been the inspiration of a national and international variety/lifestyle program and the business of Serves You Right, Inc. Beginning in 2002, Mr. Valentino also became a Contributing Editor to PASSPORT Magazine, the sister publication of QSF Magazine.
Stephen began his entertaining career at the age of six months when his baby photographer wanted to submit him for the Beechnut Baby Food label but his mother declined, so he had to wait till he was five to tread the boards in a musical review! He proceeded to perform year after year and even founded a theatre company, Mastic Community Theatre, at the age of fourteen and served as its Artistic and Managing Director for four years. After graduating from William Floyd High School, in the top 1% of his class with a Regents Diploma, Regents Scholarship, and as a Merritt Scholar, on full scholarship he attended Hofstra University in New York, majoring in music and minoring in both drama and speech. From 1974 until 1977 he attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He has received grants to study and perform at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, and the Banff Festival in Alberta, Canada. At the Banff Festival, Stephen had the honor of performing for His Royal Highness, Prince Charles, of England.
Mr. Valentino studied voice privately in Los Angeles with famed German operatic Baritone, Horst Günter, and he maintains current membership status in the Screen Actor’s Guild as well as in the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, with eligibility in equity.
The City and County of San Francisco - for Mr. Valentino’s efforts on its behalf - by Proclamation and unanimous vote of the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor, named a day in his honor. One noted columnist dubbed Stephen “San Francisco’s Beloved Bon Vivant”, and the sobriquet has stuck!
